First, as-found data is recorded before disassembly or any other action is taken. This ensures that the resulting data accurately reflects the conditions and operation of the pipette when it was received by the lab. Pipettes are then disassembled and cleaned. All parts are inspected for damage and wear.

Pipettes are then reassembled and calibrated. Four readings are taken at three volumes: nominal, 50% of nominal, and 10% of nominal.
